Just bought this. It's in Oregon and I'm in California so will need to find a way to get it down here.
It comes with a cut up body and two pans. No other parts.

A few more. I'll be collecting parts because it's just the chassis and body. I may look to do an IRS chassis.

Very rough but I've been looking at the forums and trying to figure out the best way to get it back to one piece.

I would agree. I did my first FG project this year and found that it isn't that hard. Obviously practice helps perfect technique. Best of luck to you.

The engine will only require a small amount of elbow grease to clean up, or you run it with the "patina"

A little chrome polish and it will be good as new. I did manage to get it running with the help of Jim's VW in Lodi. Seems to run ok so now the plan is to get it looking a little better. Heads are re torqued, valves adjusted, new coil, fuel pump, points and condensor, plug wires, and a rebuilt carb.
I found a 73 Thing shroud in good condition and have a brand new 1 wire alternator for it. Also found a better manifold that doesn't have welds on the preheat tubes like this one does. The pulley and the oil fill are in the Evaporust for a few days for some rust removal. When I have a little more time to devote I'll take the tin off and pressure wash the engine.
I would like a full rebuild but it's not in the budget. Most of that will be needed to try and get the body put back together. That's proving challenging as all the bot/fiberglass guys are booked solid. Plus this needs everything. On the short list are:
windshield and frame
VW low back seats
roll bar
wheels
Dietz head lights
tail lights
emergency brake handle
VW steering wheel
sidewinder exhaust

Here's the 69 chassis I have. It's registered as a 69 Bug with a non op in my name. I'm motivated to get this project moving but this pan needs a lot of work. Needs shortening, floors, a napoleon hat and probably more. I'm trying to find an IRS pan that is closer to being ready to go. This did come with a zig zag transmission though.
