The DMV used to make you surrender your old plate when you got a replacement, so its unlikely they have the original, however just a snap shot could tell you what the number was and help tell you where yours fell in the build order.

All, Sorry to put this in this monocoque thread.
How come the images that Nelson and others post are bigger than the actual available screen size on here? I see these awesome images but have to slide the bar back and forth to see the entire image. Is there something I can do to increase the viewing width of this text area ? I have a MAC at home and a PC at work. Both are the same when it comes to viewing the images.
Thanks
Chris

Good question! I don't know Chris, it fits the screen of my iPad and my widescreen monitor at home, so it must be scalable, but I did see it overhanging the borders on my small, square, flatscreen monitor on my work computer. I'll go into the site as an administrator and see if I can resize them. Maybe there's a setting that limits the size of the physical border size of the photos. I'll get back to you.

Scott & Chris, The Size of the pic is based upon the host site as in Photobucket and such. Yuku does not set those codes to allow for personal preferences "its an artiest thing". Also photos are treated as links in Yuku how the photo is formatted is up to the owner or poster. There are many photo programs like MS & Photoshop that can be set to an auto format feature. I hope this helps

A little off topic maybe but I just want to say how good it is to see a lively thread on this forum. I do wish folks would post here instead of the FB page...

Yep! I'm also on board about the FB issue. I posted teaser pics there to drive traffic here.

Here are some pictures of the Porsche-powered monocoque last seen in a Pasadena auto shop in 2005. It was owned by Los Angeles Attorney Mark Geragos who intended to restore it for his son. No idea of the license plate number (because I know Nelson will ask . That's some muffler! At first glance I thought it was one of those propane bottle gas tanks Bruce fabricated for old red. It also has cutouts along the rear upper edge, maybe for a Baja-type cage or something? Plus, it has an angled footrest added on the passenger side. Note the headlights, turn signals, and license plate light housings were painted black. That's the way mine are . . . must have been the trend at some time. Looking at earlier monocoque pics it seems the original light housings were painted to match the body, or sometimes chrome plated. The front bumper is thinner than mine and attaches differently, which makes me wonder if my bumper is original. Thank you Bob Anderson for forwarding the photos!

Scott,
You mentioned the black headlights.
The Dietz headlight shells were only available in 2 finishes, BLACK & CHROME. Any color other than black or chrome has been refinished.
There was a bit of a price difference between them, with the chrome being higher priced.
I can remember my Dad had a pair on the front bumper of his over the road truck in the 50's

That is a standard 356 Porsche muffler. When the car was built, there probably were not a lot of Porsche headers available, so they just used it as it was in the "bathtub" body. But it looks like they made a set of "J" pipes and raised the muffler up and got it closer to the engine for ground clearance. Without the carbs on the engine, it is hard to get a guess at what vintage it is. The cutouts in the bottom of the rear bodywork also hint that something else was going on. Tom
