what size tire w/ drop spindles

Post by Gene-C »

I am going for the slammed manx look, and I am running CB performance 2.5" drop spindles. what size tire on a stock 15" VW wheel will clear my manx front fender? Thanks -Brian

My red Manx has a 2 1/2" drop with 205-50r15 BFG tires. If I stop fast, they rub the top of the fenders, good sized bumps in the road will cause them to hit. If you have turn signals on top of your front fenders and they are not in the optimal place, the tire will rip the wires out of them. If you have a choice, I would look for some 14" wheels. If you want to stick with stock VW wheels, VW ran 14" wheels on Things and buses. Image

I dont have turn signals on the fenders, but I am runing CB's wide 5 disc brake kit. This kit adds 3/8" width on each side, so I think I need to worry about the outside of the fender. the 14" wheel is a good idea though. do the bus whels look the same?

There were a couple different styles and one of them looked just like a bug wheel.

I called CB performance, and they said their LP disc kit wont fit in a 14" wheel. I think I want to run these wheels. http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C38%2DDR%2D736 what are some good tire options for a 15x5.5 wheel? (semi low profile, but not too low, as I am dealing with the rear camber issue.) Thanks -Brian PS: where did you get your chrome taillights? I need some for my manx.

tire size is not as important as your wheel offset. I droped my ront end 3" and I am runnin 5.5" wide wheels with a center offset and 195/50R15 tires and they dont rub Image

Now, they are wide 5 bolt pattern wheels, so they are designed to fit a bettle. My disc add 1/2" of track, so, I think my 4 1/8 backspaced wheels will work. Or am I wrong? by the way Jeremy, Your Buggy looks killer!
