How do we sort out all these? You have to look at the hood of course, the Dash, and then the tail. I will try to post some pics tonight of the differences from home

Thank you Thank you Thank you.... Awesome information John!! That gets me one step closer. My buggy has a very small rear opening and a ridge. I would love to see the dash style.

They contracted Terra-Knife (now know as Terra-buggy) to build the buggy they called a "Cyote" and renamed it as a Rascal. Sears advertisied this buggy for the first year with it as an exact match to the "Cyote".

John, I noticed that you refered to the Terra-buggy as the "Cyote" and not as Coyote. Is there any particular reason for this? I have a Sears Rascal assembly manual, it's a copy that's been duplicated several times, so the quaility is bad, and I suspect a few pages are missing however in it they call it the Coyote Body. Also, the buggy pic on the cover doesn't seem to have the rib on the hood, and looks to have the bump where a Manx badge would go. I also have a pic from an late 60's Sears automotive catalog and the buggy they are advertizing doesn't have the rib down the hood. I'll post the pic here ASAP.

This picture is from the back cover of a Sears catalog dated 1971...It has a hood rib. I would bet Sears was buying bodys from where ever they could find them to keep up with demand.

Originally, Sears contacted B.F. Meyers to produce Manx kits for them to sell in their stores and catalog, but then Sears decided to go with a cheaper buggy. However, in some of the first advertising Sears produced for their buggy, they continued to use photographs of a Manx.

Looks like this one doesn't have the battery box or spare tire well.

Hey guys, I think Posted this stuff recently on the Archives. The whole story of the Sears buggy. Bart one of the founders has done a ton of research on these. The plastic Manx style dash was in a Corsair. They were built NE Canda way. There are two different dashes between the Glitterbug and the Rascal. The Rascal has the radio extension area on the passenger side. The tails are the big factor too. Early Rascal made by TerraBuggy in INdianna had a small early manx style tail. Late had the Glitterbug box tail. Corsair has the late Manx style tail. Kellison had the Manx dash and early small manx tail opening. All had an identical single hood ridge. John

They even had the square badge sticker that Terra buggy put on still on there. The cover of Pop Sci. magazine has this one. In 1969 the ads had the Tail box in the auto catalog not the main catalog. In 1970-71 ish the Manx appeared. From what I have been able to gleem, this was during all the lawsuits. I understand that Sears contracted them but, they closed without deliver more than a dozen bodies through Sears. At the same time Motor Vehicle laws for 1970 went crazy with fenders over tires, enclosed engines, no open pipes ect... all over the country and especially in the North East. In my opinion the lawsuits, and the MV laws killed the buggies for many years. I have asked Bruce to tell me more about this, but he says wait for the book someday.? That was in 1998.
