OT-Return of the F-Body

Post by Reverb »

I know this isn`t VW or buggy related, but being a fan of muscle cars, this has me pretty excited. GM plans on releasing a whole new designed Camaro in 2007. GM is keeping hush on what it`ll look like, but many believe it`ll have old school styling, based on the classic `69 Camaro, much like Ford did with the 2005 Mustang. Here is what they believe the new Camaro will look like. http://tiger.towson.edu/~wchalk1/mafba/5thgen.htm

I'm partial to the '67-'68 models myself. The '69 is a little too 'edgy', with the side lines. A '67 Camaro is my ultimate dream car. With that said, none of those concepts do anything for me. They look like the outcome of a Corvette/Mustang one-night stand. The last one looks like a late Audi TT. Blah. I'd sooner invest the money in a REAL classic. I DO, however, think Ford did a great thing with the new Mustangs. They got a much needed Facelift.

If that is what the new Camaro will look like I say to GM. Go for it. Bring back the Coke bottle shape and don't stick its bum in the air like new cars, make the whole body level like the old one.

I personally would love to get my hands on a 1965 GTO. The camero's from the 60's are cool however it was the GTO's that I feel are the heart of the 60's muscle.

Year One is manufacturing an exact reproduction of the early Camaro bodies in steel. It seems like quite and undertaking.

Those 67 n 68 Camaros are great looking too. But as the ol saying goes Mopar or no car,, true I guess if you have the Hemi motor in a Cuda

Back in the day.....I raced several hemi cars on a weekly basis with my 427 Nova and my SD-455 T/A and none of them were ever worth racing. I've seen many 440 wedge engined cars that would run rings around a comparably prepped hemi on any given weekend. Unless the hemi is all aluminum and running on nitro they don't impress me. That's not saying I wouldn't like to have a hemi Cuda, even if it's more of a prestige thing. :driving:

What year was your super duty?? 74 had to be the very last muscle Pontiac,, but I always wanted the 73,,,,, I even heard the S/Ds run 13s,, straight off the showroom floor,,, maybe  I joined the Pontiac Oakland club USA back in the 80s, in the hope to find one for sale,,, the first newsletter i recieved had a brewster green 73 S/D T/A advertised for sale, and it was in Devon UK,, i was late getting my first newsletter, and the guy had already sold it :( ,,,, he told me that it had gone back to USA. So that dream was never forfilled. Jerry, did you ever hire a Hertz rent a racer? cant belive Hertz did this. If your a mag collector my 72 455 HO had a 6 page feature (& center spread) in UK mag American car world No 2 July/ August 93,,, and my 68 tri powered Goat had a 3 page in Classic American mag June/July 90. 63 to 73 has to be the BEST EVER years ever for motoring,, my buddy with the 65 tri pac goat, bought it back in the 60s (and still owns it),,, he used to park up back in the old days and wait for Astons and E types to come along,, just so he could blow em away,, must try and get some pics for ya.

My T/A was a 73 white on white with absolutely no graphics. The best 1/4 mile time with the T/A running stock street tires, some dyno tuning and tweaking was 12.67 @ 119mph. The Nova was a 1969 COPO Nickey Chevrolet SS 427, 4 speed. It's best run was 11.22 @ 142mph on slicks. It was dynoed at 512hp to the rear wheels after some minor tuning. And to think my VW powered Manx ran 12.51 on it's third pass on street tires. There is something to be said for power to weight ratio and weight distribution :D
